Mande tour, Mande is the original name of Mali. The Kingdom of Mande has been annexed by the sorcerer King Soumangourou KANTE, the strongest King at that time. Malinké people fed up with him, called Prince Sundiata KEITA to liberate Mande from Soumangourou’s domination. When Sundiata came from exile, he rested in Siby while planning to rid the people of the sorcerer-king. In 1236 he won the war and decided to detain Soumangourou, he followed him to Koulikoro where Soumangourou entered a cave in Nianan Koulou and never came out. Sundiata organized a delegation in Kurukan Fugan which included all the 12 kings of Mande. During the Assembly, he declared “Our Kingdom is now big enough to become an Empire and is the biggest and strongest in West Africa.
The biggest and strongest animal in water and on earth is the hippopotamus, let’s name our Empire Mali, (hippo in Malinké dialect” The country took the name Mali in 1236. He also thought of organizing the society: Nobles, Griots, and slaves. Together they created a constitution of 44 Laws defining the roles and places of each person. All the 12 kings agreed that Sundiata be the Emperor of the Mali Empire

Breakfast at Hotel and transfer to the Riverbank for your cruise on the majestic River Niger to Bancoumana. During your trip on the Djoliba local name of the river, you will stop in some Malinke villages to see how they live. Lunch on board, upon arrival in Bancoumana, where you will meet the drivers, you are transferred to Kangaba, one of the main provinces of the Mali Empire. Check-in a basic hotel Le Refuge for dinner and overnight. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner Hotel: HOTEL LE REFUGE
Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Kela, the cradle of the Malinke griot. You will be welcome by the local people with their traditional musical instruments. Interact with them to learn about Mali History and their own history. Drive back to Kangaba to visit the Kama blon which roof is renewed every seven years. The last one was in 2018. Then you will visit the historical rocks that mark the movements of the Goddess of water. Continue to Siby, on your way stop in an authentic village called Samako. There you will visit a compound to learn about the difference between round and rectangular houses. Upon arrival in Siby, check-in at Hotel Kamandjan for lunch. After lunch, you will discover some historical sites including The Arch of Kamandjan, the cave of fetish, and the divination cave, back to Hotel for dinner and overnight. After breakfast at the hotel, you drive southwest to Nana Kenieba, a Malinké village where more than 300 Dogon families come to their fatherland after they left many centuries ago. Mandé is the original place of Dogon, some came back because of the security situation on the cliffs, many of them think it is better to come back to their ancestors’ land. Upon arrival, you will meet the chief of the village in his vestibule to listen to the history, walk in the village to take pictures before going to the dance place at the feet of a big mountain which will remind you of the Dogon cliffs. You will see the folks dance of the Bondoncrou group and then the Dogon dance performed by the Dogon population. After dance performances, you will walk about 1km to see a divination place in a cave called “Koma Fanfan” where you can see some signs on the rock and end your visit with the low furnaces from the 13th century to see how they worked on iron at that time. Depending on the time you will have lunch in the village and return to Bamako On our way you can visit the Sacred house of Keniero dating back many centuries. Some people would say it is older than the one of Kangaba (996years old). Learn about the history of the house and continue to visit the fish farm in Djelibani. You will continue to visit the hunter's house in Tabou to learn about the brotherhood of hunters in Mandé. You will visit the sacred well of Tabou in a Rock near the main road, they would use the water to heal many diseases. Continue to Bamako, upon arrival in Bamako, you are transferred to the hotel.
