Day 1: Arrival in Accra, Ghana

The first day of our Ghana 8 Day Special   brings us to Accra, the capital of Ghana

Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport, proceed through immigration, claim luggage and clear Customs procedures, exit, and meet our expert Cultural Tour guide.

We begin our Accra city trip with a lovely drive through the big and beautiful University of Ghana, Legon campus for a tour. After that, you proceed to the hotel, where your guide, who will accompany you throughout your stay in Ghana, will educate you on what to expect during your trip. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the way of life and history more or simply relax. We’ll stay overnight at the Urbano Hotel, which includes breakfast in the morning.

 

Day 2: Accra

Welcome to Accra, Ghana’s busy capital, which now is a mix of modern-day edifices and colonial-era architecture that gives you the feeling of a tremendous adventure. As you depart after a magnificent breakfast at your hotel, our tour will take you through W.E.B Du Bois Centre honoring the life of the prominent Pan-Africanist who chose to live and work in Ghana. Next, Jamestown Community-One of Accra’s most historic neighborhoods where history resides on every corner.

We continue to the Brazil House, where we learn about the seven Afro-Brazilian families that returned to Ghana in 1836 to settle, this is our final stop on day one of our tour in the late afternoon.

We’ll stay at Urbano Hotel for the night. which includes breakfast in the morning.

 

Day 3: Accra – Kumasi

After breakfast, we drive through the well-known forest zone to Kumasi, the Ashanti Empire’s capital, to learn about the legendary Ashantis, whose legacies may still be seen today. On your journey to the Mampong Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine, take a lovely drive through the Aburi Mountains. The Centre researches the use of plant medicine to treat a variety of diseases.

Arrive at Kumasi late in the afternoon and tour Manhyia Palace, which served as the formal residence of Ashanti Kings (Asantehene) until 1974 and is now a museum housing priceless Ashanti Kingdom artifacts.

The rest of the day is free for you to relax. We’ll stay overnight at the Noda Hotel, which includes breakfast in the morning.

 

Day 4: Kumasi – Craft Villages

After breakfast, you will go to three craft villages in Kumasi’s verdant countryside. Bonwire will be our first craft village, where we’ll discover how the famed Kente cloth is woven on looms in a time-honored technique. Take a look at the Kente styles and make a purchase. We may make a polite call to this community’s supreme chief.

We’ll travel to Ntonso, where artisans hand-stamp patterns on a cotton cloth to create Adinkra Textiles. Learn how the Black Dye is manufactured in the village from the bark of trees and make your Adinkra sash to take home. Large pieces of Adinkra Cloth, which are handcrafted in the hamlet, are also available for purchase.

Visit the Kumasi Central Market (also known as the Kejetia Market) this evening, West Africa’s largest open market, where over 10,000 sellers sell their items. You can find almost anything here, including food, textiles, beauty goods, and handmade crafts.

The rest of the day is free for you to relax. We’ll stay overnight at the Noda Hotel, which includes breakfast in the morning.

 

Day 5: Kumasi – Assin Manso – Elmina

Drive to Cape Coast after breakfast, stopping at Assin Manso to visit the gravesite of two former slaves from the United States and Jamaica, whose bones were reinterred in August 1998 at Ghana’s first Emancipation Day ceremony. The ‘Slave River,’ where abducted Africans were bathed before being incarcerated in Slave Castles to await transit to the Americas and the Caribbean, will remain visible.

Visit the Cape Coast Castle and Museum for a guided tour when you arrive on Cape Coast. The “Door of No Return” is located in Cape Coast Castle, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We’ll stay overnight at Coconut Grove Beach Resort, which includes dinner that night and breakfast in the morning.

 

Day 6: Elmina – Kakum – Elmina

Visit Kakum National Park after breakfast. One of Ghana’s most well-known parks is Kakum. Take a short walk onto the forest floor to witness birds, butterflies, and maybe even a sight of the roughly 40 kinds of mammals that live there, including monkeys and the elusive forest elephant. Continue to the canopy walk.

Next, Visit Elmina Castle, which was established in 1482 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The earliest European construction built in Sub-Saharan Africa was this castle. In the evening, you’ll go to Mesomagor, a local village, to observe the Bamboo Orchestra in action.

We’ll stay overnight at Coconut Grove Beach Resort, which includes dinner that night and breakfast in the morning.

 

Day 7: Elmina – Accra

You will check out of your accommodation after breakfast and depart for Accra. You’ll make a brief stop in Abandze, the hometown of Louis Armstrong, the legendary American jazz musician.

Arrive late in the afternoon in Accra. For last-minute shopping, go to Osu’s famed Oxford Street (which includes the Global Mamas Shop, Woodin Shop, and other local booths selling highly colorful and stunning African apparel, beads, and accessories) or the Wild Gecko on the Airport road.

You might wish to end your trip to Accra with a farewell meal at a local restaurant near your hotel to take advantage of the city’s vibrant nightlife.

 

Day 8: Accra

Today is free to do as you desire, but with the guidance of your driver and guide, plan your trips and activities. Visit the places in Accra and the surrounding area that you haven’t seen before.

You will be transported to the airport in preparation for your return trip.
