Day 1: Dakar, Senegal-March 8, 2018

On arrival in Dakar you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel. Today’s activities will be determined based on your arrival time. You may relax and unwind or start the tour of Dakar and vicinity.

Day 2: Goree Island/Dakar- March 9, 2018

This morning take a 20-minute ferry ride to Gorée Island. The tour includes a visit to the ethnographic museum and a lecture by the curator on the history of the Goree, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon return to Dakar and go on a city tour. Visit the colourful markets including Tilen Market, famous for a variety of medicinal herbs and traditional healers. Stop by Dakar’s grand Mosque, the Presidential Palace, and the Artisans Market.

Day 3: Dakar / Lompoul / St. Louis – March 10, 2018

After breakfast, depart to Saint Louis located in the north of Senegal. Stop in Lompoul for a camel ride on the sand dunes; from the top of the dunes enjoy a panorama view of coastline. Continue to Saint Louis. Arrive in the afternoon and start a city tour of Saint Louis. Explore the narrow streets flanked by houses with carved wooden balconies and verandas. This evening visit the fishing village of Guet Ndar.

Day 4: St. Louis / Touba / Kaolack- March 11, 2018

This morning complete the city tour of Saint Louis then depart to Kaolack in the South of Senegal. Stop at Touba, the holy city of Mouridism. Continue to Kaolack an important regional market town and Senegal’s main peanut farming, trading and processing centre.

Day 5: Kaolack / Juffureh / Banjul, The Gambia – March 12, 2018

Depart to Banjul. Detour for a journey “up-river” to one of Gambia’s most visited sites, Juffureh, the land of Alex Haley’s “Roots”.  Arrive first in Albreda, which gained fame as a result of its Flag Pole, which many believed would guarantee freedom to anyone who touched it after escaping from nearby James Island. Observe the ruins of the Sao Domingo Church, reputed to be one of the oldest churches in West Africa, erected by the Portuguese during the 17th century. Continue to the village of Juffureh to where the ancestry of “Kunta Kinte” of Roots fame was traced. The restored original home of the Kinte clan still occupied by the Kinte family can be visited during your time here. Early evening, continue to Banjul.

Day 6: Banjul / Abuko Nature Reserve / Banjul – March 13, 2018

After breakfast tour of Abuko Nature reserve, Gambia’s principal wildlife Reserve. See chimpanzees and other animals including a variety of exotic birds. Drive back to Banjul. In Banjul, visit the National Museum showing the history of the Gambia. Continue to the markets, Batik factories, monuments and other points of interest.

Day 7: Banjul / Kantaur – March 14, 2018

After an early breakfast, depart for Kantaur to see the famous Stone Circles. Take ferry to Barra. From  Barra, drive to Kantaur in eastern Gambia and visit The Wassu Stones Circles believed to be the burial mounds of Kings and chiefs in ancient times over 1,200 years old and has been dated to between 750-1000 AD. Overnight in Kantaur at Khairo Garden.

Day 8: Kantaur / Kaolack – March 15, 2018

After breakfast, depart the Gambia and drive to Kaolack. Enroute visit traditional Mandigue and Serere villages. Arrive in Kaolack for overnight.

Day 9: Kaolack / Saly – March 16, 2018

After breakfast, drive directly to Saly and stay at leisure OR drive to visit Joal which is the birthplace of Senegal’s first President Leopold Senghor. Visit the fish market and Senghor museum. Then continue to the traditional Serère village of Fadiouth where you will visit the cathedral, the market place, the sacred Baobab tree and the famous cemetery where Muslims, Christians and animists are buried together. Continue to Saly visiting road side villages.

Day 10: Saly / Dakar /Depart- March 17, 2018

After breakfast, morning is at leisure before afternoon transfer to Dakar for your onward flight.
