Northern Ghana is one of the most beautiful parts of West Africa. The landscapes are fantastic; there are magnificent forests, rivers, lakes, and plains. The diversity of wildlife is also impressive with elephants, lions, leopards, and plenty of monkeys.
The region has an interesting history as well. The ancient Ghana Empire was based in what is now northern Ghana, and its capital was determined by archaeologists to be at Kumbi Saleh on the River Komoe in northern Burkina Faso near the border with Mali.
The trip will start with a tour of the city of Tamale. Tamale is the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana and is situated on top of a hill surrounded by mountains. It is home to many historical sites including the Tamale Museum which houses various artifacts from the ancient past.
Our second stop will be a visit to the Mole National Park together with a lovely trip through small villages.
Then a visit to the oldest mosque at Larabanga. The oldest mosque in Ghana, and one of the oldest in West Africa, is a must-see. Also known as “Africa’s Mecca.” Look at the mystical stone.
After this visit, we headed off to Wechiau, a town in Ghana’s Upper West Region. We will get the opportunity to learn about the Lobi and Wala people’s traditional life and customs. On the Black Volta, have a beautiful boat safari to the hippopotamus sanctuary.
Before departing for the airport for your journey to Accra, the tour concludes with an early morning safari on foot and some last-minute shopping.
You will be picked up from your location in Accra for a morning flight to Tamale.
Upon arrival in Tamale, you will be met and assisted. Embark on a mini-tour of Tamale before we proceed to the Mole National Park with a scenic drive through small villages along the way.
We cannot miss a visit to the Larabanga Community,a must see is the oldest mosque in Ghana and one of the oldest in West Africa. Also known as “Mecca of Africa”. See the mystic stone before continuing to Mole Park. Here you will learn the unique history behind this magnificent mosque.
