DAY 1: ARRIVAL / ABUJA CITY TOUR

Upon arrival in Abuja, you will be met, assisted, and transferred to your hotel. The city of Abuja is a purpose-built, planned capital of Nigeria. The site for the new capital was chosen due to its central location, easy accessibility, pleasant climate, low population density, and availability of land for future expansion. Not only was the city designed, but an entire environment was created. Abuja is surrounded by abundant hills, highlands, savannah grasslands, and tropical rainforests. This afternoon, you will enjoy an Abuja city tour, including visits to the National Mosque, Central Business District, International Conference Center, Millennium Park, and Christian Center. You will also have a distant view of the National Assembly Complex due to security protocols.

Meals: Dinner at the hotel

DAY 2: ABUJA – LOKOJA – ABUJA

The lush green Mount Patti, standing at 458.3 meters, is located in Lokoja, the capital city of Kogi State. Lokoja is a neighboring city to Abuja, with a driving distance of approximately three hours. From here, visitors gaze in awe at the mountain’s magnificence. Situated at the confluence of the Rivers Niger and Benue, this area has been inhabited for thousands of years by various ethnic communities and was once a major center for trade. Lokoja also holds historical significance as the first administrative capital of modern-day Nigeria. While on Mount Patti, you will visit: (A) The Mysterious Baobab Tree – This tree is believed to possess mythical properties. Its seeds, bark, and leaves are traditionally used by locals to treat various ailments. (B) Lord Lugard’s Rest House – Now a small museum of colonial history, this structure has remained untouched since Flora and Frederick Lugard left in the early 1960s. (C) The Confluence Viewpoint – From this spectacular vantage point, you will witness the meeting of the Rivers Niger and Benue, famously known as “The Confluence.” It was at this very location that Lady Flora Lugard named the country Nigeria. Did you know that Nigeria was named by a woman? In the afternoon, return to Abuja.

Meals: Breakfast and dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3: ABUJA – NIGER STATE SULEJA / ZUMA ROCK

After breakfast, continue with a visit to the neighboring Niger State, home to the famous Zuma Rock (climbing is now forbidden). Zuma Rock, a large natural monolith and a landmark for which Abuja is known, is located to the west of Abuja, along the main road to Kaduna, just off Madala. It is sometimes referred to as the gateway to Abuja from Suleja. The rock rises approximately 300 meters (980 feet) above its surroundings. Situated about five miles southeast of Suleja, Zuma Rock is not only a geological wonder but also a site rich in local folklore and legends. According to the Gwari people, the indigenous inhabitants of the surrounding area, Zuma Rock holds profound spiritual significance. One prevalent legend among the Gwari people is that Zuma Rock is a deity, acting as a protective guardian for those living under its shadow. Local beliefs also attribute healing powers to the rock, and there are accounts of individuals who claim to have experienced remarkable recoveries after visiting or praying at the site. These indigenous myths and beliefs contribute to the unique cultural and spiritual significance of Zuma Rock, adding depth to its geological features. After visiting Zuma Rock, return to the Federal Capital Territory and proceed to the Nike Art Gallery (Imagery Artworks) for sightseeing. You may also visit the Arts & Craft Village for shopping and sightseeing—bargains abound here. Stop for lunch at the Abacha Military Barracks Market before returning to your hotel.

Meals: Breakfast and dinner at the hotel.
