Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, perched at the highest point on the Ngorongoro crater’s entire rim and facing the always stunning sunsets to the west, sits well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unsurpassed views across this gigantic caldera.
The lodge, which is themed after traditional African dwellings with conical roofs and is furnished with examples of Africa’s rich tapestry of artistic traditions in the form of rich woodcarvings and sculptures, blends in nicely with its spectacular surroundings.
But the drama does not end with the great outdoors: it continues inside the main building’s split level interiors, which all offer an unrivalled sense of spaciousness while also managing to combine an almost magically welcoming atmosphere of warmth and friendliness.

The concrete pathways that lead out from both sides of the swimming pool to our guest rooms, which are built to the same style, are bordered by brightly colored blooms of different types of bushes.
When you go through your door, you’ll probably hold your breath as you gaze across the two queen size beds and out the lower level enclosed solarium window walling at the vista of the crater beyond.
The luxury doesn’t end there. Because the lodge’s altitude makes it chilly at night, each room has central heating; hot water bottles are placed in each bed during our evening turndown service; and our luxuriously appointed bathrooms have extremely spacious showers in which you can reminisce about the wonders of this awesome, almost magically mystical place known as Ngorongoro.
All of our rooms are equipped with facilities to ensure that your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. Our complimentary coffee and tea, as well as our wake-up calls, will all help to kick-start an early morning game drive.
