This specially curated Familiarization (FAM) journey is designed exclusively for travel professionals to experience the rich culture, history, and hospitality of Ghana firsthand. Over the course of this program, travel agents will explore the vibrant capital of Accra, visit some of the country’s most significant historical and cultural landmarks, and gain valuable insight into the unique experiences that make Ghana an exceptional destination for travelers.

The itinerary combines immersive sightseeing with carefully selected hotel inspections and experiential activities, allowing participants to better understand the quality of accommodations, logistics, and cultural depth that can be offered to their clients. Agents will visit iconic heritage sites including Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle, explore Ghana’s natural beauty at Kakum National Park, and experience meaningful cultural traditions that connect visitors to the story of the African diaspora.

Day 1: ARRIVE IN ACCRA, GHANA

Upon landing at Kotoka International Airport, proceed through immigration, claim your luggage, and clear customs. Once you exit the terminal, our experienced cultural tour guide will be there to greet you. You will be transferred to your hotel in our private air-conditioned vehicle. Should the airport forex bureau be opened at the time of your arrival, you will be de directed to change your currencies if you want to. However, anytime you would want to change currency on your tour, ask your guide for a forex bureau. Upon arrival at your hotel, complete the check-in process and settle into your room.

Day 2: INTRODUCTORY TOUR OF ACCRA

Today marks the beginning of your wonderful experience in Motherland. On your first full day in Ghana, after a sumptuous buffet breakfast at your hotel, we set off for the tour of Ghana’s capital Accra and its vicinity, passing through economic and administrative districts. 

· Visit the W.E.B DuBois former home, now a museum and Centre for the Study of Pan Africanism. Continue with a drive through the Independence Square where Ghana hosts most of her national ceremonies and take some amazing photo memoirs at the Black Star Square

· Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the final resting place of Ghana’s first president driving past the Independence Square where you will see the enclosed flame of African liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961.

· Just adjoining the Memorial Park is the Accra Arts & Crafts Centre, how about trying out your bargaining skills at the largest open market in Accra whiles you shop for some stunning authentic African wear, arts, and crafts as souvenirs for family and friends back home, you will have the opportunity to experience some of Accra’s most authentic shopping outlets.

Day 3: ACCRA | KROBO | AKOSOMBO | ACCRA

After a breakfast, set off to Akosombo. Enroute, visit a small village- Krobo Odumase to witness firsthand experience of beads making from specially crafted glasses- Cedi Beads Factory. We will have the opportunity to design our own beads using the traditional Krobo technique. The bead-making craft has a long history in Ghana. Beads have been used in ceremonies of birth, coming of age, marriage, or death for the past 400 years. You will watch and participate in the whole bead-making process from beginning to end.

Later continue to Royal Senchi Resort in Akosombo. Enjoy lunch (on your own) before joining the wonderful boat cruise on the volta lake. Life jackets are provided, and a Professional Captain will ride you through the unforgettable boat trip. Return to Accra after the day’s activities.

Day 4: ACCRA

Optional Activities:

· Batik and Tie-Dye

After breakfast, you have the option to explore the fragrant and exotic flavors of West African cuisine in your cooking class. You will be introduced to an array of new tastes and flavors as you learn how to create authentic Ghanaian dishes. Using African cooking techniques during the workshop, you will create traditional dishes like peanut soup, jollof rice, Palava sauce and Yam etc.

Another option for this morning is visiting the Accra Arts District where you will have a workshop on how to make Batik and Tie-Dye, you will have the opportunity to make your own fabric at the end of the workshop. Later in the afternoon continue with the site inspection of two hotels. The Pelican Hotel and Labadi Beach Hotel. Later return to the hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5: ACCRA | ASSIN MANSO | CAPE COAST | ELMINA

After a sumptuous breakfast, check out and depart to the central region. Un-route, visit Assin Manso, Slave River is the burial site of two former slaves from the U.S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day celebration. You will see the ‘Slave River’ where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean. Proceed to the Cape Coast Castle and Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the home to the “Door of No Return”.

Day 6: ELMINA | CAPE COAST

After breakfast, you will travel a short distance to Elmina Castle, originally called Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, completed in 1486 and was the first European made structures built in sub-Saharan Africa. At the castle, you will go through the “Fihankra” Fihankra is a ceremony which seeks to reconnect people of African descent, who have been lost due to the transatlantic slave trade, to the motherland. This ceremony reconnects returnees with the cultural and spiritual ties that had been denied them for centuries. The final part of Fihankra includes a Naming Ceremony. After lunch on your own, explore hotels in Cape Coast and Elmina. You will inspect Ridge Royal Hotel and Coconut Grove Beach Resort.

Day 7:ELMINA | KAKUM | ACCRA

Following a leisure breakfast, we check-out of the hotel and head to Accra. Detour Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor; see birds, butterflies and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forests over 40 species of mammals including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Proceed to the canopy walk. Kakum is home to Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-foot-long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground. Early afternoon, we drive to Accra, arriving late afternoon. After check in, you will freshen up and make your way to Yaya Restaurant for dinner.

Day 8: ACCRA - DEPART

Morning at leisure. Later, with the assistance of your guide, you go for last minute shopping if time permits and later transferred to the airport in time to catch your departure flight home. After this trip you will forever view the motherland in the positive light it deserves.
