You come over a tiny rise and the lodge emerges almost instantly below you after a long leisurely game drives through herds of wild animals and down miles of Africa’s apparently endless highways.
Tarangire Sopa Lodge is nestled among the kopjes, ancient baobabs, and grasslands of the Tarangire National Park, which is home to Africa’s largest concentration of elephants. Many can be seen about the lodge, allowing visitors to get up and personal with them.
While our round guest apartments with their high, conical roofs stretch out on either side of the public areas, a word of caution is in order. Because the lodge is not fenced in any manner, wild creatures are free to come and go as they like, and transits to and from your room may be delayed by an elephant or two on rare occasions. Our guards will insist on driving you home at night for this reason alone.
You’ll be charmed with the space and airiness of your accommodation, as well as the views from its protected veranda, once you’ve entered the coolness of your chamber. With its mini-bar, two double beds, and a large, well-appointed bathroom, you’ll only wish you were there longer.
