Day 2 Kampala/Bwindi
Day 2 Kampala/Bwindi

Leave for Bwindi National Park and the Impenetrable Forest after an early breakfast. A quick break at the Equator will allow you to reach Kabale in time for lunch. Continue your drive through stunning terrain, where on a clear day you might be able to view the crater-like Virunga Mountains. Arrive at Bwindi in the evening, the home of the endangered mountain gorillas and many other primates.

After breakfast, set out early with your guide to find the gorillas. The hardships of the strenuous hike will seem insignificant in comparison to the exhilaration of your encounter. Admire the gorillas as they go about their everyday activities for a while. You get a close-up view of adults eating, grooming, and relaxing while the young joyously frolic and swing from vines, making every meeting special.

To get to Queen Elizabeth National Park, travel across the western rift valley. A nighttime game drive to the crater area will provide you with breathtaking views of the lush grassland tucked deep inside volcanic craters. Many large animals, including lions, buffaloes, kobs, elephants, and bushbucks, may be seen in the park.

Drive to Kyanbura Gorge early in the morning for a spectacular chimpanzee safari. Chimpanzees live naturally in the gorge. It may take you many hours to complete your guided trek in search of chimpanzees and other animals. Take a sail on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George, after lunch. Hippos and buffalos are seen in schools all along this canal. On the banks, elephants are frequently sighted.

On a morning wildlife drive, observe the predators and early risers returning to their dens. Visit the Katwe Saline to find more about the responsibilities that local women play in salt mining and to see how salt is mined there. Drive to Kibale Forest National Park across the Rwenzori mountain ranges and savanna plains. In the late afternoon, take a stroll around the marshes. View a variety of primates, birds, and butterflies. Keep exploring the region around the crater of Ndali lodge. Visit the "natural bridge" and the "top of the world."

After early breakfast, set out to track chimpanzees in the forest. Kibale National Park is a most fascinating destination which is home to the man's closest living relative, the endangered Chimpanzee, the threatened Red Colobus Monkey and the rare l'hoesti Monkey. The forest also boasts one of the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa totaling 13 species including Black and White Columbus, Blue monkey, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Red Tailed Monkey and Bushbabies. In the afternoon return to Entebbe for your departing flight.
