Discover Mauritania

Discover Mauritania 8 Days: Mauritania:

The name of the nation is derived from the Latin word “Mauretania,” which meaning “west.” The Arabic word for North Africa is Maghreb. The Romans referred to the Berbers as Maures.

In 1860, the French took control of the nation with the help of the Maur church. The kingdoms of Fouta Toro and Walo Walo, as well as the Arab-Berber emirates of Trarza, Brakna, Taganet, and Adrar, were all destroyed once Mauritania became a state. Black Africans and Arab-Berbers are the two main ethnic groupings in the nation as a result. Black Africans include the Soninke, Bambara, and Fulani. Both the black Maurs known as Haratin and the Arab-Berbers (Beydan) are said to be Maurs.

White Maurs hold black Africans from Haratin as slaves. Both the black and white Maurs are considering. As contrast to white and black Maurs, black Arabs who identify as black Maurs do so as Africans. The main aspect of commonality is Sunni Islam as it is practiced now.
