Day 8: SALY – BANDIA – PINK LAKE – DAKAR (June 8th)

We check out and travel for Dakar after breakfast. We stop by Bandia National Park for a safari on the route. The Bandia Game Reserve is part of a larger protected area. Many Senegalese species may be found here, including buffalos, antelopes, impala gazelles, monkeys, tortoises, and crocodiles, as well as white rhinoceros, kudu, elands, cape moose, giraffes, ostriches, and zebras.

Visit the crocodile pool, where animals congregate and buffalos wallow in the mud. There will be many bird species to see, including little hornbills, grey herons, eagles, blackbirds, and kingfishers. The Bandia wildlife reserve has been successful in returning much of the magnificent natural flora and animals that are unique to West Africa that had progressively vanished owing to demographic pressures and poaching.

We proceed to Pink Lake, a remarkable natural phenomena generated by a unique combination of microorganisms and a high salt concentration, which gives the lake its distinctive pink color. Because of the continuous high salt production, the hue is no longer as pink as it once was.

You may talk to the salt harvesters or go to the adjacent Fulani community.

We travel to Dakar after lunch, check into our hotel, and prepare for supper before tonight's Dak'Art festivities.
