After breakfast, experience a full-day tour of the city of Djibouti. You will visit the city’s numerous monuments and markets.

Day 3: Lac Abbe
Day 3: Lac Abbe

Drive to Lac Abbe, a salt lake located in a breathtaking natural setting, after breakfast. Watch how sulfur is emitted from limestone chimneys. Because of its otherworldly environment, the classic science fiction movie "Planet of the Apes" used it as a set. You will stop at Grand Barra along the way, the ruins of an old lake that provide an excellent opportunity for animal viewing.

Visit the Bankoualeh Oasis with its lovely flowers and waterfalls after breakfast. Travel to the settlement of Ardo later in the day before continuing on to Lac Assal, a crater lake that is regarded as one of Africa's most amazing natural occurrences.

After breakfast, depart for Lac Assal and explore the area's volcanic landscape, which includes the hot springs and volcano Ardoukoba. Drive back to Djibouti in the late afternoon to catch your flight to Khartoum. You will be greeted at the airport, helped, and driven to your accommodation. After then, spend the remainder of your day as you like.

The tour to Meroe, also known as Nubia, one of the oldest civilizations to emerge along the Nile River Valley, begins after breakfast. Return to Khartoum after that, and you'll be taken to the airport to catch your trip to Asmara. You will be greeted at the airport, helped, and driven to your accommodation.

After breakfast, Piccola Roma visits Asmara's sights (Little Rome). The Catholic church, the historic governor's mansion, which was built in 1897 and served as Emperor Haile Selassie's regular retreat, the Enda Mariam Orthodox Cathedral, and the outstanding collection of 1920s Italian architectural designs in many of the structures are all important sites. The Fiat Tagliero, a futuristic-style petrol station designed in the shape of an airplane, is a well-known 1938 landmark. The Al Khulafa al Rashedin market, the National Museum, and St. Mary Coptic Church are all worth a visit. You may also see a weird monument dedicated to one of Russia's greatest poets, Alexander Pushkin. There is always enough for a seat and an iced or hot cappuccino at one of the many outdoor cafes.

Day 10: Asmara/Keren

After breakfast, depart the capital and travel north into the highlands, via steep terraces of coffee and orange orchards, to Keren, which sits on a 1392m plateau surrounded by dusty ochre mountains. Keren, one of the country's most beautiful towns, is also the center of Eritrea's agricultural community. Keren is the capital and administrative hub of the Anseba area, as well as one of its most well-known cities. This lovely city, less than ten miles from Asmara, is a commerce center and a natural crossroads for various languages, ethnic groups, and religions. Camel caravans, Turkish-style mosques, and Eritreans dressed in turbans and caftans typical of the Middle East may be found here. There is also an amazing camel wood market here that attracts people from all corners of the region. Interestingly a street runs through the center of the market.

After breakfast, continue the tour of Keren, concentrating on the town's historical and architectural sites. Visit a well-known shrine dedicated to St. Mary of Da'arit, also known as Mariam Da'arit. The shrine is housed within a vast Baobab grotto, which was dedicated in July 1881 by the fifth Vicar Apostolic Monsignor Touvier. Visit the historic location of significant military conflicts between the British and the Italians during WWII, including the Italian cemetery with its elegantly inscribed gravestones of perennial bougainvillea.

Drive to the city of Massawa after breakfast. You will pass through the Filfil, which is home to the final remains of Eritrea's tropical forest. The location is well-known for its bird-watching opportunities. The rainforest is part of the Semenawi-Bahri area, which is a steep terrain that dips down to the coastal plains. Not only is the area rich in uncommon flora and wildlife, but the winding road recently built through the region's mountains in 2005 provides magnificent vista after spectacular landscape.

After breakfast, take a tour to Massawa, a city made up of islands that is steeped in the history of several different kingdoms. Massawa, dubbed the "Pearl of the Red Sea," has long been one of the region's most significant ports. Massawa is the ideal location for the adventurous visitor, with its gorgeous Turkish-style architecture and retail arcades, beautiful mosques, and great seafood. Aside from its various attractions, the city also has gorgeous beaches and world-class swimming within a short distance from the city center.
