Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ACCRA
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN ACCRA

Once you arrive in Accra, you'll be picked up after going through immigration and customs. You will welcome by our cultural tour guide and transported in a private A/C vehicle to your hotel in Accra. Once you've checked in, your guide who will be with you during your time in Ghana will brief you on what to expect.

We will be visiting the W.E.B Du Bois Centre in Accra, Ghana, this is the final burial place of Dr W.E.B. Du Bois, the first African American to a prominent center that honors Dubois, led the Pan-African congress between 1919 and 1927. who chose to live and work in Ghana. 

We'll continue to Independence Square, where you can see the flame of African Liberation that was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. Visit the Arts and Crafts market at Accra’s ceremonial grounds. 

Our day’s visit ends at Jamestown Community, the oldest city in Accra. It is the most historic neighborhood where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was constructed in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for trading vessels sailing through the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse was completed in 1921. 

Observe how the local food of indigenes Ga’s prepare the most popular staple food in Accra made from corn into ‘Ga Kenkey’ with the spicy sauce ‘Shito’ and fried fish. This evening, enjoy a taste of Fulani’s cuisine with Chef Binta. ‘Dine on a Mat’ is a nomadic cultural experience starting with a colorful mat setting. a guided introduction on the Fulani tribe's history and traditions, your taste buds are then engaged with fragrant bold pairings of local meats, vegetables, ancient grains like Fonio, and indigenous spices. You're then lulled with live Fulani percussions and soothed with a traditional Attaya tea ceremony.

Okomfo Anokye Sword Site

Drive to the Ashanti Empire Palace in Kumasi, explored the legends of Ashantis, whose legacies are still evident today. Stop at Akyem Tafo and visit the Cocoa Research Institute. You will have the opportunity to examine and touch some cocoa pods, learn how the cocoa bean is processed into chocolate and other by-products like cocoa liquor, black soap, and cocoa pomade. Before you leave for Kumasi, take a hot cocoa beverage and have a bite of the Ghanaian Chocolate. 

In the afternoon, we will visit the Manhyia museum to learn about the history and cultural heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom at the official residence of Asantehene. The museum containing treasured items relating to the Ashanti Kingdom. 

If time allows, we'll visit the nearby Okomfo Anokye Sword site, an important symbol of Ashanti unity that marks the spot where the Golden Stool “descended from the sky” and has been in place for over 300 years. It is said that the Ashanti Kingdom would fall should the sword be removed from its sheath.

DAY 4: KUMASI-LAKE BOSOMTWI-KUMASI

National Cultural Centre- Prempeh II Jubilee Museum
Lake Bosomtwe

We will visit the National Cultural Centre, where you can see the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum as well as the brass makers, potters, and batik makers. 

Driving through the city to Lake Bosomtwe, the largest body of fresh water in Ghana, is an excellent way of peace and serenity of the Lake. Take a walk by the lake and get to know the local fishermen. Enjoy a 30-minute boat ride around the lake for a picturesque view.

DAY 5: KUMASI-ELMINA

Assin Manso Slave River
Cape Coast Castle

After breakfast, we depart to Cape Coast, En route, we visit Assin Manso where the “Donkor Nsuo (Slave River) is located. See the burial site of two former slaves from the U.S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day celebration. You will see the ‘Slave River’ where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean. This was the final transit point for enslaved Africans before being washed and stored in the slave castles to await shipment to unknown lands. 

On arrival, we visit Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Castle was one of the departure points for enslaved Africans being sent to slavery in the Americas. It is home to the infamous “Door of No Return”. The musuem tells the inside history of the castle and the cape itself. You can purchase books about Ghana's forts and castles, as well as the cultural history and traditions of Ghana.

DAY 6: COOKING LESSON
DAY 6: COOKING LESSON

Morning at leisure.

Learn a few bargaining skills at the market as usually done by locals amidst shopping. Whiles back at the teaching venue with a local family, attend the instructions that will offer you complete knowledge on making local cuisines like fufu, Red Red, yam, and palaver sauce. On completion, enjoy your labor by biting into your handy work and taking this rich experience that will forever stay with you. Beverages of your choice will be served with your meal. Once done, return to your hotel with a copy of the recipes.

DAY 7: ELMINA – KAKUM- ACCRA

HIGHLIGHTS:

Kakum National Park

After breakfast, you will visit Kakum National Park in Ghana. It has one of Africa’s famous rainforest canopy walkways. This canopy walkway will be one of the highlights of your time in Ghana. Prepare to take a deep breath while you walk the suspended bridge and marvel at the breathtaking views that stretch for miles across the rainforest. 

Upon returning, stop at a palm plantation and observe the process and taste of fresh palm wine.

In the morning visit, Aunty Muni's Kitchen sells delicious Waakye with (fresh tomato sauce and hot black pepper sauce with spaghetti). It is a popular food joint in Ghana. Waakye” is a simple but nutritious Ghanaian dish of cooked rice and beans.
