Overview

Explore the cities of Bamako, Mopti, and Djenne. Visit the mysterious Dogon people and the markets in Segou. You can even enjoy a sunset sail on the Niger River!

Itinerary

Day 1: Bamako, Mali

Upon arrival at Bamako international airport, you are met, assisted, and transferred to Hotel Radisson Blu for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Bamako - Segou
Day 2: Bamako - Segou

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Segou. On our way stop in some Bambara village to learn about their culture, their way of life. Your last stop will be Sekoro, the ancient capital city of the Bambara Kingdom. This visit will include: the direct descendant of the King, the Vestibule where the King would receive his guests, the tomb of the King, walk a little bit on the bank of the River Niger, and end our visit to the Mosque the King built for his mother. Continue to Segou, upon arrival, you will check in Hotel Esplanade located on the bank of the Niger River. In the afternoon, you will visit the mud cloth painting workshop, where you will learn mud painting technics and even experience. Drive to colonial buildings and finish the visit to the potteries from Kalabougou on the bank of the River for sale. Transfer to Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Segou – San - Sikasso
Day 3: Segou – San - Sikasso

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Sikasso with a stop in Terekoungo a Bobo village famous for its sacred well, fetish, and millet beer making. Drive through a beautiful savannah landscape, with stops in interesting villages. Lunch stop in Koutiala at Hotel la Chaumiere, walking tour of the market. Continue to Sikasso called the green belt of Mali, because of the vegetable grown in the area. The region is the top region of cotton production “Called White gold”. Upon arrival in Sikasso, check-in at Hotel Cinquantenaire for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Sikasso

Breakfast at the hotel and discover the city of Sikasso including The Senoufo Center which is an interesting museum where you can learn about Senoufo culture. Continue to the Mamelon Hill a man-made hill on where the king would receive the guests. There you will have a beautiful view of the city. Continue the Mausoleum of the King Tieba Traore (1866- 1893) and then visit his house of his Marabout Keletigui Berthe. Continue to the Cultural Center to see the ruins of the protecting wall called Tata Wall. The King had built this wall to protect the Capital against the invaders. Drive to some meaningful monuments. Lunch at hotel. In the afternoon, you will drive out of the city to an authentic Senoufo village called Zerelaba, where you will assist to a traditional balafon performance. Walk in the village to see some fetish houses. Drive back to Hotel le Cinquantenaire for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Sikasso - Bamako

Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Bamako, you will visit some villages on your way. Upon arrival in Bamako, check-in hotel and relax at the hotel by the swimming pool. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: Bamako - Depart
Day 6: Bamako - Depart

After breakfast, you will take a city tour of Bamako including the hill of health, the recycling market, the national museum, and the handicraft market, and drive to some meaningful monuments. Depending on flight time you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

BAMAKO – NANA KENIEBA – BAMAKO – DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel and go to discover the cradle of civilization. You will drive to Nana – Kenieba, a village that hosted more than 300 hundred Dogon families who returned to their origin and left because of the security situation. You will witness a Dogon mask dance performance. Drive to Siby, visit the arch of Kamandjan, the vestibule, and the cave where the King would keep his fetishes. Learn about the history of Mali from the Mande Kingdom to Mali Empire. Drive back to Bamako for dinner and transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
