  3. DAY 3: DAKAR – PINK LAKE – BANDIA – SALY

After breakfast, drive to Pink Lake separated from the Atlantic Ocean by narrow sand dunes. The pink color of this Lake is caused by the presence of microorganisms called Artemia Salina Bacteria and the high salt content (a rate of 380g / Liter). This means the lake is 11 times saltier than the Atlantic Ocean and the second place in the rate of salinity after the Dead Sea.

In fact, the salt content changes with the seasons and the amount of daylight, with the lake actually fluctuating from a light mauve to deep pink.

Interact with the salt harvesters with a possibility to swim and float in the lake that is not more than 1.5m deep.

Get quads, buggy, or Jeep and enjoy a ride/drive to sand dunes and the ocean. Have lunch at one of the many restaurants.

We will drive a short distance to the Bandia National Park which is housed in the heart of a classified forest; a reserve that covers more than 2 thousand hectares. Embark on a three Hours-Safari through a forest of Baobab and acacias trees to see mostly herbivorous wild animals such as buffalos, antelopes, impalas, gazelles, elands, kudu, giraffes, rhinos, monkeys, zebras…Birds’ species as small hornbills, eagles, vultures, kingfishers, grey herons.

We will get to a special baobab tree for an archeological course; the tomb of the Griots. Griots were peoples of caste such as storytellers, drummers, singers and once they passed away, they were often buried inside the hollow of the baobabs. With our local guide, we will learn more about these people. Enjoy refreshments at the bar beside the crocodile’s river and then drive to Saly beach.

    Meals included: Breakfast and dinner

  4. DAY 4: VILLAGES DISCOVERY

We will stop in a Serrere village. Serre is an ethnic group that is made up of farmers and fishermen and they are mainly Christians. However, they still keep their ancestral beliefs and are the guardians of the sacred wood. Stop to visit the legendary Baobab tree in Fadial.

Continue to discover a nomadic camp of Fulani or Peulh people. This ethnic group is found in many countries in Africa, and their main occupation is breeding. They are nomads because they are always in search of grass and water. Stop at other places of interest and you may visit a local weekly market or a school.

On the way back to your hotel, stop and visit the fishing port of Mbour, the most important one in the country.

    Meals included: Breakfast and dinner

  5. DAY 5: SALY – JOAL FADIOUTH – SOMONE – SALY

After breakfast, drive to Joal Fadiouth. We stop first in Joal, a former 16th-century Portuguese trading post, and the birthplace of the poet Léopold Senghor and the first president of Senegal.
