Ghana, best known for its hospitality and warmth, is a nation that offers visitors a wealth of history, culture, and intriguing leisure activities in a vibrant setting. Come with us on this fascinating cultural immersion trip as you learn the English Language, culture and get a deep dive into the day-to-day life of Ghanaians on this Ghana Summer Program.

Activity
  1. DAY 1: ARRIVE ACCRA, GHANA

    Upon arrival at the airport and after completion of immigration formalities and baggage reclaim, you will be met at the arrival hall by our expert tour guide and transferred to your hostel.

    After check in, you will have time to settle down and unpack.

  2. DAY 2: ACCRA

    After a sumptuous breakfast, you will have orientation on what to expect and what you need to know throughout your stay. You will form work groups, brainstorm on the specific topics you will be studying over the next 2 weeks. Today’s activities will include:

    • Language class (Introduction to English- Letters of the Alphabet, Verb to Be, & Subject Pronouns)
    • Cultural class (Introduction to Ghana, Ghanaian culture, ethnic groups and languages, 16 Regions of Ghana)

    After lunch, we will have visit the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, W.E.B DuBois Centre, and a tour of the vast beautiful campus of the premier University of Ghana. You will also have a drive through the infamous Oxford Street, the Accra Mall and other areas of Accra.

    Return to the hotel in the evening for dinner, and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

  3. DAY 3: ACCRA

    Class continues today:

    • English Language Class (English Vocabulary lessons, Nouns, Tenses, Adjectives)
    • Cultural Class (Ghanaian Languages with focus on Twi & Ga, Ghanaian Greetings). We will have the opportunity of saying basic greetings in the local dialects.

    LUNCH

    This afternoon, explore Accra further on visits to the Legon Botanical Gardens for a line -up of fun filled activities.

  4. DAY 4: ACCRA

    Class continues today with focus on the following:

    • English Language class (Subject Verb Agreement, Simple Sentence Construction, Parts of the Human Body, Everyday English speaking)
    • Cultural Class (Ghanaian Names & their meanings, Ghanaian Family System)

    Following lunch, we visit the Teshie Coffin Place & the Jamestown Fishing community.

    This evening, we will meet after dinner to create cultural groups and each group will be tasked to pick an element of Ghanaian culture which may be dance performance, a song performance, a play/drama to display later in the program.

  5. DAY 5: ACCRA

    Following breakfast, we will spend our morning at the T.K Beads to learn how authentic African beads are made from glass. After lunch, we return to Accra.

    We will have a few hours of class:

    • English Language Class (Dictionary Skills, Dictation quiz)
    • Debate Class (On a preferred topic)

    Following dinner, we will experience a night life of Accra and enjoy exciting games/movie at the Accra Mall.

  6. DAY 6: ACCRA – CAPE COAST

    After breakfast, we depart to Central Region where we embark on a tour of the infamous Forts, Castles and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. History will unfold the story of the slave trade which the impact is still felt beyond the shores of Africa today. Visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653 and was later taken over by the British. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994.

    After lunch, visit the Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 and is also known as St. George’s Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub-Saharan Africa.

    After dinner, we will have a group check in, each cultural group will meet for rehearsals on their Cultural performance later in the program.

  7. DAY 7: CAPE COAST & VICINITY

    After a leisure breakfast and check out, we drive through the forest zone of the Denkyira Kingdom to visit Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor where you will learn how our ancestors lived in the forest. Proceed to the canopy walk. Kakum is home to Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-foot-long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground.

    We continue to Hans Cottage for lunch. Built over a lake containing Nile crocodiles and set in a beautiful location surrounded by tropical rainforest. The “Boatel” derived its name due to its proximity to the pristine lagoon which is home to crocodiles, turtles and many species of birds.

    Upon return to the hotel, you may take a cool icy dip in the swimming pool. We will have a cultural dance performance during dinner.

  8. DAY 8: CAPE COAST – ACCRA

    After a leisure breakfast and check out, we will visit the Global Mama’s where you will have a workshop. The Global Mama’s seeks to create wealth for African women and their families. Here, you can design and make a beautiful Tye-Dye cloth as a takeaway souvenir.

    Upon our arrival in Accra, we will visit the West Hills Mall for window shopping and other fun activities. The rest of the evening is free.

  9. DAY 9: ACCRA

    Class continues today:

    • English Language class (Subject-verb Agreement, Pronouns, Lessons on English Numbers & Pronunciation)
    • Cultural Class (Ghanaian Music & Dance, Various Tribal Dance and Music in Ghana)

    After lunch, we will visit the Accra Arts Centre to practice bargaining in English. We will also have the time to take drumming lessons at the Centre before we return to the hotel.

  10. DAY 10: ACCRA

    After breakfast, class begins:

    • Culinary Class: There will be time to visit the market with an instructor to see how to buy ingredients to prepare Ghanaian Jollof. What we will prepare will be taken as lunch.

    In the afternoon, our lessons continue:

    • Language Class (Days of the Month, Telling Dates & Time)
    • African History Class

    This evening, we will have fun indoor team-building activities and rehearsals for all cultural groups.

  11. DAY 11: ACCRA

    This morning, we shall have a Yoga Session with Bliss Yoga. In this class you will get to learn and practice postures that help to align, strengthen and promote the flexibility of the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement and also full-body relaxation.

    After lunch, our English Language lessons continues on Colors in English, Inanimate objects, Question Types etc.

  12. DAY 12: ACCRA

    Enjoy a leisure breakfast at the hostel before we proceed with our class:

    • English Language Class (Quiz)
    • Cultural Class (Quiz).
    • General Knowledge (Quiz)

    After lunch, we will attend a swimming class at the Tesano Sports Complex. For those of us that do not want to swim, you can enjoy squash, tennis, badminton, Table tennis, Snooker or the Café.

    We shall have our cultural night this evening where each cultural group has the chance to display their beautiful skills and entertain us.

  13. DAY 13: ACCRA – ADA FOAH

    Depart to the Treasure Island for an ultimate and unforgettable adventure in the heart of Ada Foah.

    Highlights:

    • Island crossing on the boat
    • Horseback ride
    • Engage in exciting games

    Located on the Volta river which empties into the Atlantic Ocean at the Gulf of Guinea, Treasure Island has many exciting and captivating activities like water sports for first time visitors.

    Following dinner, we shall have games and entertainment night. chats.

  14. DAY 14: ADA FOAH – AKOSOMBO

    After a refreshing night along the ocean and a sumptuous breakfast, enjoy the early morning at leisure.

    We will check out around 11.00am to Accra with a stop in Akosombo.

    Following lunch, enjoy a tour of the Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam. This is the cradle of electricity production in Ghana, a national land mark set in the midst of naturally beautiful surroundings.

    We drive to Accra arriving early evening. Use the rest of the evening packing for your departure tomorrow.

  15. DAY 15: DEPART

    Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight home.
