Day 1:
ARRIVAL -
International flight arrives in Accra. You will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2:
ACCRA CITY TOUR -
After breakfast depart your hotel for a sightseeing city tour of Accra. You will drive through the administrative and economic districts of Accra, the capital of Ghana. This 130 year-old city which has a blend of colonial European-medieval and modern architecture that summarize her history. Tour James Town, a part of Accra featuring colonial era architecture including a 30 m high lighthouse and Fort James. Continue to Usher Town, where you will see Fort Usher, a former prison where Kwame Nkrumah was once held. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the Independence square and also see Osu Castle (known as Christiansbourg Castle); constructed by the Danes in the 1600s it has been the seat of the Ghanaian government since 1876 AD. Visit the W. E. B. Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture. You will be spellbound at this stage by the great works of Nkrumah and Dubois. Later on your return make a memorable visit to the University of Ghana, Legon. It is Ghana’s premier centre of higher education. Its distinctive buildings of Japanese architectural design are set amongst elegant tree-lined gardens. Visit the studio of the School of Performing Arts for an exciting cultural experience. You will have the opportunity to participate in a drumming and dancing workshop led by the University’s skilful African music and dance scholars. Use this opportunity to learn about some of the traditional dances in Ghana including “Adowa” and “Kpalongo”. You would be taken to the great hall area of the University and have a panoramic view of the city of Accra popularly referred to by students as Accra by night.

Day 3:
ACCRA/SHAIL HILLS/ABURI/ACCRA -
After breakfast, visit a local casket making shop to see a collection of caskets carved in the shape of different objects, depicting traditional beliefs in life after death. The “Fantasy Coffins” of Teshie Nungua have been featured in National Geographic and can be found in museums and galleries worldwide. We would then proceed to the Shai hills reserve for game viewing by driving through the reserve for about 5km to view various animals including antelopes, bushbucks, baboons, other animals and several bird species. You will have the opportunity to learn about the various artefacts found in the reserve, which is the homeland of the Krobo ethnic group. You may also visit the caves, which is of historic importance to the Krobos and other tribes. There are three caves in all and depending on your energy you may visit all. In the afternoon visit Aburi Botanical Gardens: Aburi Botanical Gardens was established as an agricultural research station and convalescent home for the British Colonial Administration. The garden overlooks the coastal plain at an elevation of 1,200 – 1,500 ft. above sea level. You will learn about the cultural and medicinal importance of the trees in these gardens. The serene environment leaves lasting memories. Later you will proceed to the Akuapim hills and visit the Tetteh Quarshie farm where cocoa was first farmed in Ghana. You will also visit the centre for Scientific Research into plant Medicine a before returning to Accra.

Day 4:
ACCRA/AKOSOMBO -
After early breakfast depart to Akosombo. Enjoy the scenic view of the Volta lake and Akosombo Dam from a height at the Volta Hotel. This shall be followed by a picturesque drive to the cradle of hydro electricity in Ghana, the famous Akosombo Hydro-electric Dam. You will then cruise on the Volta Lake. After the 4 hour cruise return to Akosombo for a visit to the dam which is located within the Akosombo gorge, on the Volta River. The construction of the dam resulted in the flooding of the Volta River Basin, and it subsequently created Lake Volta. This resultant lake is the largest man-made lake in the world and covers about 3.6% of Ghana’s total land area.

Day 5:
AKOSOMBO/TAFI ATOME/AFAZATO/WLI/TAMALE -
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive (3 hours total) through the Volta Region to the village of Tafi Atome where you will visit the Tafi Monkey Sanctuary (a sacred grove). Tafi Atome is the home of Mona and Patas monkeys. These monkeys are found in a remnant patch of forests, which has survived fire and human disturbance to thrive as a sanctuary for these monkeys, which are regarded as sacred by the villagers and are protected from human disturbance. You will have the rare and exciting experience of witnessing these endangered animals in large numbers living in close proximity to humans. From Tafi, you will trek up the mountain to the highest point not only in Ghana but in the entire West Africa. The Afadzato Mountain is very spectacular at a height of 2905ft above sea level. You will drive onwards to the Wli Waterfalls, which is the largest and highest waterfall in Ghana. This fall is divided into two sections with ice cold water flowing from a height of about 80ft. On route to the waterfall, you will hike through the lush greenery of the Agumatsa Forest Reserve where you will cross the same river eleven times before reaching the breathtaking falls. This fall has a colony of wild bats, butterflies, breath taking sight and cool environment. In the evening you will continue to Tamale in the North.

Day 6:
TAMALE/BONGO/PAGA/TAMALE/MOLE -
After Breakfast Depart to Bolgatanga and stop en-route at Tongo, visit the chief’s palace where you will be afforded a traditional welcome. Next stop shall be at Paga where you will have a rare experience of riding a crocodile. These crocodiles are totems or sacred animals that live right in the middle of the village and are harmless. Return to Tamale later in the afternoon and visit the cultural centre and Tamale central market before proceeding to Mole National park. Stop just before Mole at Larabanga and visit the Larabanga Mosque and mystery stone. Continue to Mole National Park – Enjoy an evening Safari trek at Mole National Park.

Day 7:
MOLE -
Early Morning Game viewing at Mole National Park by trekking. You may enjoy the swimming pool or relax at a view post overlooking the dam. Best time to view elephants. Early afternoon visit the village of Morgounori and experience a typical village life in Northern Ghana. Here you may enjoy a sale in a canoe.

Day 8:
MOLE/KUMASI -
Depart for Kumasi Stop at Kintampo Water Falls Arrive in Kumasi; visit the central Market which serves as a major marketing centre for a number of traders from all over the country. Time permitting see the Okomfo Anokye Sword, an important symbol of Ashanti unity that marks the spot where the Golden Stool is said to have descended from the sky and has been in place for 300 years. Legend says the Ashanti Kingdom would collapse should the sword ever be removed.

Day 9:
KUMASI -
Visit the Manhyia Palace and Museum to obtain first hand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom. A regal history that dates back to 1700 is told with relics and artefacts. Enjoy a drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. Tour the National Cultural Center, which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters and batik makers You may also visit the craft villages in Ashanti – Ahwiaa (the wood carvers’ village) and Bonwire (the Kente weaving village). You will have the opportunity to see how African sculptures are carved, and how the famous Kente cloth is woven using an amazing local technology. You will have the opportunity to purchase directly from the artisans. At night a cultural troop shall be invited to perform for two hours at the hotel for your enjoyment (guaranteed for minimum 8 travellers).

Day 10:
KUMASI/ BUSUA -
Depart to Busua. En route stop at the Ashanti rich gold mine town of Obuasi. Arrive at the Busua Beach resort in the afternoon. Busua has one of the finest beaches in Ghana. The rest of the day is at your discretion.

Day 11:
BUSUA/CAPE COAST -
After breakfast depart for Cape Coast. Your first stop shall be at the Elmina Castle – On arrival in Cape Coast you will visit (Elmina Castle) Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina – the site of the first European contact with West Africans when the Portuguese landed here in 1471. Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. The next shall be Kakum National Park – Drive to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Extending over 360sq km, Kakum is the home to over 40 large mammals and 400 bird species as well as many species of butterflies, flora and fauna. The most popular attraction is the Canopy walkway, which is made up of seven bridges extending 330m, hanging 30m (100 feet) above the forest floor. Choose between a 2 km nature walk through this forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer or take a walk on the canopy walkway 3 hour primary forest guided tour and hike

Day 12:
CAPE COAST -
After breakfast, visit the Cape Coast Castle which also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Cape Coast Castle is another restored UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Castle was one of the embarkation points for Africans being shipped to slavery in the Americas. Proceed to Accra in the afternoon; visit the Osu street market for souvenirs and later have dinner at a selected restaurant. This evening you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
